Warren's Bio

“I developed Chimorel in 1969 when watching hundreds, eventually thousands of kids, return to OYC (now the Ohio Department of Youth Services). It was heartbreaking, but the problems were in the community, not the institutions. Solutions had to be developed in the community. The thing about developing programs to save kids in a troubled world is if you don’t put the funding in place, nothing much is going to actually happen.”

In the institution there is little that can be done to offset the powerful forces that swirl around an impressionable or hardcore youngster when he/she goes home. His/her world may be filled with drugs, violence, hunger, squalor, gentile neglect, too much, too little, poor schools, bullies, free spirits and all the things that happen while our children are trying to grow up. Warren eventually decided that the best way to deal with these systemic problems is to design ways to help one family, one business, one employee, one child at a time and to ask one concerned citizen at a time to invite others to participate. At the moment you are that concerned citizen and you are invited.
Warren has counseled hundreds of individuals; taught thousands of students; helped hundreds more find jobs; assisted dozens of small businesses, corporations and nonprofit groups; hired, fired and trained scores of employees; and planned many, many programs – as various opportunities unfolded. Along the way he designed a plastic reclaim facility. He offered to purchase the Columbus Waste To Energy Facility and transform it into a recycling center by instituting a trash collection fee with free recycling in Columbus, Ohio. He developed a comprehensive recycling program (see the New Recycling Story) and has recycled thousands of computers. He has uncovered more than 2000 strategies to help individuals and organizations and has initiated a free Success Journey, which you can invite others to start at any time. He is willing to work with you to help set goals and solve problems when you are ready to make a serious commitment. You can learn to seek donations, start a business or change a life.
Warren has earned a living as a social worker, stock broker, financial planner, business consultant, adjunct professor, placement coordinator and investor.

He has made some money. He has built value for his family without money by using concepts you can discover, as you get more involved. He may volunteer to help people and organizations, but always expects a tangible result. He bills his time at $300/hr in ways that even the poorest homeless person can afford. He initiates projects that pay the bills, but sets aside time to continuously develop Chimorel. Today he is semi-retired, but may still spend 12+ hour days on a variety of Chimorel projects.
Warren and his beautiful wife lived in a nice home they remodeled together. She has now moved on to a better place. His children are grown. One’s a CPA. The other’s an engineer and computer project manager. Born in 1942, Warren’s not yet ready to actually retire. He has now acquired the Chimorel Sancturary in Delaware, OH and you are invited to find peace, inspiration and empowerment imbued with a sense of adventure, while you make decisions to enhance your life and improve the world.
There is still time to make many good things happen. Will you join him as he continues to do something about those kids who kept returning, the world they live in, and the challenges you face in your life? Perhaps together we can enable Chimorel to continue to support thousands of people even after we both have found a quiet place to rest.

5. Invite Prospective Directors

Inviting People is both a privilege and a responsibility. Inviting Prospective Directors is definitely a step up. You are expected to replace yourself on the board or committee you choose to join before life happens and you suddenly must withdraw?  At the  Invite People section below we discuss What Kind of People Make Good Directors and give you suggestions to help invite people who could become Prospective Directors.
Inviting people to get involved is also a significant time saver. Competent board members are always busy people with limited time availability. When you invite four others to help, there are now five people involved in what it would take one person much more time to do. Think about what we just said. If you make it your primary initial task to invite others, you can reduce your time involvement dramatically.
To support the process of inviting people we provide the following tools: Who Should We Invite? Brief Invitation. 7 Page Board Invitation. 6 Page Membership Explanation. x Page Program Explanation. 7 Page Case Statement & Feasibility Study. Elements of a Dynamic Nonprofit. Fund Raising Work Plan. How Does a Nonprofit Raise Money? Click the link above to gain an understanding of our needs and make the process of inviting people relatively easy.

As you know, inviting people to become Prospective Directors is both a privilege and a responsibility. It is also a little uncomfortable, especially as a new Prospective Director yourself. So don’t invite people to become a Prospective Director, just invite them to learn about Chimorel.
As you explore this area, you are experiencing Chimorel’s step by step system, designed to test reality and to lead to higher involvement. So far the steps have been relatively easy:  Write a Bio. Understand our Core Principles  & certain Guidelines. Register & Confirm. Each step leads to a slightly higher commitment and a way to understand more about what you and others can do to support people.
This final step, Inviting People, is definitely a step up. Will you eventually replace yourself on the board or committee you choose to join? This is a significant responsibility and it ensures an ongoing broad based level of support for Chimorel’s future. We believe this is a reasonable expectation. Just remember, don’t invite people to become Prospective Board members, just invite them to learn about Chimorel, then the right people will percolate up to the top and most likely Warren will  do the actual inviting.
When you have a family emergency, a business crisis or some other reason which requires you to step aside at least temporarily, that is the wrong moment to be concerned with replacing yourself, but it leaves a gap in Chimorel’s ability to make decisions or carry out your responsibilities.
Let’s develop the pool to make this commitment easy – invite several people who could replace you now. Support them as they learn about Chimorel. You will develop people to support Chimorel as your busy life continues and we will be able to support more people because of you.
We need seven Voting Directors who do not have financial ties to Chimorel, as well as, an unlimited number of Prospective Directors, Advisory and Finance directors and Committee Members. There are countless opportunities, goals to achieve and problems to solve. The more strong leaders you invite, the more we can do.
Below we help you understand our needs and make the process of inviting people relatively easy. We also give you some insight about a variety of ways to get involved.

Who Can Chimorel Support?

The key word is motivated. The M in Chimorel stands for motivated. Chimorel is willing to support anyone, but we wait until you (generic) really want something before we spend a lot of time.
This is really important. If you don’t want to support others or don’t want something for yourself enough to take real action steps, no one has enough resources to actually enhance your life.

Who Can Support Chimorel?

Once again, we are looking for committed (motivated) people who take an active role to make things happen. These people may have strengths and skills in the following areas.
Marketing, grant research and writing, real estate acquisition, nonprofit legal and accounting, program development and implementation, nonprofit fund raising, security registration and marketing, banking and finance.
Specific program areas include: career development, job search, debt reduction, welfare, rehabilitation, property renovation & management, recycling, business consulting, business incubation, nonprofit development, client assistance, scholarships, education, coaching and much more that enables a person to demonstrate genuine care/concern, to listen and to guide as people develop and implement action plans to enhance their lives and change the world.
Now, regarding that committed person taking an active role to make things happen. As you are experiencing, we anticipate that the people who get involved with Chimorel will explore this section of our website. They decide that Chimorel is the kind of mission they want to support. When they are ready they can become a prospective board member willing to role up their sleeves and make real things happen.

We make a significant effort to minimize and diversify the time it takes to learn about Chimorel.  At the same each time effective Board Member will invest enough time to be able to actually make things happen and understand his/her Chimorel responsibilities.

We Do Value Your Time

Thank you for your time thus far.  Everything we do at Chimorel starts with setting goals. We test these goals against reality, then develop action plans to implement the goals. We are about to give you a brief demonstration of this goal setting process.
If you read Become a Director without following the links, you may invest 2-10 minutes. If you register, confirm and follow many of the links, you may invest an hour or more. We value this volunteer time at $50/hr. If you earn less than $50/hr, we just “gave you a raise.” If you earn more than $50/hr, no demotion intended. It is important for you realize Chimorel has chosen to abide by the Better Business Bureau’s Standard requiring its Voting Directors to serve without compensation.
Although Voting Board members serve as volunteers, their time is one of the most valuable resources they provide to Chimorel. Our intention is to place a value which demonstrates a real contribution as you make a minimum commitment to Chimorel.
Because there is a lot to learn, you might want to set a goal of say 25 hours to learn about Chimorel. Here is a Learn Quickly option. It should take most competent leaders less than 15 minutes to scan this option. Below, we provide another option, to develop an Action Plan to achieve a  goal. Now let’s test reality for this goal setting process.
Attending Chimorel Board meetings will mean a minimum time commitment of about 8 hours/year (4 meetings at 1 hour + 1 hour preparation = 2 hours/meeting). When it comes to actual Board meetings we value your time at approximately $1200/year. Raise intended. You could spend another 25+ hours learning about Chimorel and helping us develop resources.  As noted, when you get to the Commitment and Action Plan section, you will discover we value Board meeting time at a much higher value.
Grant makers, foundations and related funding agencies frequently place a serious value on your time investment. We most certainly do.

What Just Happened?

The first thing that just happened was we suggested tentative a goal: Become a Board member making an annual time commitment of 25+ hours. (Action Verb: Become. $ amount: 25+ hours / $1250+. Time Frame: annual). If you are not yet ready to attend Board meetings, we will explore other alternatives when you get to the Do Menu.
In the process we tested your goal against reality: Perhaps, you make a minimum commitment to be at and prepare for each Board meeting, investing about 8 hours in the next year? We tested reality again: You spend much of your 25 hours/yr learning about Chimorel and developing resources. The first test is a minimum commitment. If you can’t attend 4 board meetings each year, your focus should not be Board meeting attendance. As before, there are other alternatives coming. The second test is  desirable, but will vary depending on many other things happening in your life and your focus as a Prospective Board Member.
We finished with achieving your goal. You made the commitment (Action Step) and are a Prospective Board member. If you haven’t written and sent us your bio or registered yet, now is a good time. We also hinted that we value your Board meeting involvement at a higher rate.

Accept Responsibilities

As you may know, Chimorel’s modus operandi is to set goals, test reality and develop action plans to make the goals happen. As part of your learning about Chimorel and making commitments to develop Chimorel’s resources, we will walk through a goal setting process similar to that which our clients follow.
You have personal, business or nonprofit goals you want to achieve, perhaps even problems you want to solve. We will support you to achieve those goals and solve those problems. Keep track of the time you spend as a Board member. It can cover at least part of the cost for higher level memberships and programs.
Notice the Learn Menu, Do Menu and Learn Quickly links below. Learn Quickly link is the fastest way to learn things a board member needs to know about Chimorel. The Learn Menu provides a more comprehensive learning alternative. The Do Menu enables you make things happen now.

Board Responsibilities

We seek committed Board members who will take an active role in making things happen. The commitments you make, the goals you set and the active role you play will have a direct impact on our ability to achieve our mission and to develop the resources needed to help thousands of people over the coming years.
Chimorel’s new aspirational mission is to empower motivated people of all ages who have visions to transform themselves and improve the world.
Our old school mission is to  support motivated individuals and organizations as they achieve goals and solve problems, thus enhancing each nation’s productivity, one life at a time.
When you complete our Learn Quickly training you will have already come a long way. You may not have time to undertake a comprehensive learning program at the moment or to begin to actually make things happen. If so, you can stop now and come back later.
If you still have twenty minutes or so, let’s move on to developing Action Plans. The Action Plan you develop will go beyond learning about Chimorel. You will make specific commitments to help us accomplish our mission.  If you are not yet ready to make specific commitments and your time is limited, now is a good time to take a break. If you still have some time, click the Learn Menu to continue learning about Chimorel. If you are eager to start making things happen, click the Do Menu.
Again, welcome to the opportunity. Are you ready to help us achieve our mission?
